About Us
SGL Charitable Society is a CRA registered charity incorporated as a society under the “Society Act” and is open to all those who wish to contribute towards upliftment of healthcare in Canada and India.
SGL Charitable Society members are mostly followers of Sikhism – a religion which is based on the spiritual teachings of the Sikh Gurus and other revered holy men, documented in the Sikh holy scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The core beliefs articulated in the holy scripture include:
- Faith and meditation in the name of the one creator
- Divine unity and equality of all humankind
- Engaging in selfless service
- Striving for justice for the benefit and prosperity of all
- Honest conduct and livelihood
Sangat congregates for weekly Satsangs, Gurpurabs, Festivals and occasions like Blood Donation Drives, Universal Amity Day, etc.
The service commences with members in attendance reciting verses from the Sikh holy scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Thereafter, the religious leader of the organization (either in person or video recordings) preaches and provides in-depth analysis of selected verses from the holy scripture. The members share a meal together at the end of the service. Although members are not obligated to contribute, many make a voluntary donation which is used for donations of medicine, medical supplies and equipment to not-for-profit hospitals in Canada and India as well as for day to day operations and maintenance of the SGL premises and its facilities.
